Inventory Checklists

• Legacy

We started this project in order to maintain a living inventory of cards for Legacy. We had seen articles written occasionally with checklists for Legacy and Vintage, but they are updated sporadically. Our goal was to develop a regularly-updated inventory of recommended cards for the format, one that can be filtered and sorted for ease of browsing. We welcome your contributions to this project.

Usage Notes

The inventory list can be filtered by partial name, color, recommended quantity, and tier. The filtering criteria is located beneath the list. The list can be sorted by any column, and the page size can be adjusted as well. Also contained in each card's row are links to find the card on any of several helpful websites.

Recommended Quantity

Obviously having playsets of every card would be ideal for Magic, but in many cases it's not usually necessary. This is especially relevant in the Eternal formats, where certain cards can be quite expensive to acquire. As such, we have recommended a quantity for each card that should suffice for most purposes.

Tier

We have also assigned a tier to each card. If you are trying to build an inventory of your own, we recommend you start with the Tier I cards, which are the most important, and work your way to the Tier III cards, which are the least important. Some brief examples are provided here for each tier.

Tier I:

• A card used in multiple decks that regularly performs very well (e.g. Force of Will, Tarmogoyf), or
• A vital card in a format-defining deck (e.g. Show and Tell, Batterskull), or
• A very widely-used sideboard card that may also see some maindeck play (e.g. Pyroblast, Leyline of the Void)

Tier II:

• A unique or vital card in a well-performing deck that is rarely or never used outside of that deck (e.g. Ad Nauseam, Glimpse of Nature), or
• An often-used card in one or more commonly-seen decks (e.g. Nimble Mongoose, Cabal Ritual), or
• An often-used sideboard card that sees little or no maindeck play (e.g. Submerge, Ashen Rider)

Tier III:

• A card that may see occasional play in one or more well-performing decks (e.g. Academy Rector), or
• A card that has important but narrow applications in one or very few decks (e.g. Death's Shadow), or
• An alternate or inferior substitute for another card (e.g. Magus of the Tabernacle), or
• An occasionally-used sideboard card (e.g. Cataclysm)
